We have been sipping on Blue Tokai peppermint mocha since the launch on 18th December and with their new additions to the menu, we are sorted for the month. If the aromatic coffees weren’t enough, the savoury treats will surely woo you over, in case that doesn’t work, they have desserts which will make you smile brighter than sunshine!
Start your savoury journey with beetroot hummus tartine, this open sandwich is a treat for your tastebuds and eyes. Accompanied by fresh roasted winter vegetables, you shouldn’t miss out on this seasonal dish. The two variety of quiches – mushroom & chive and smoked chicken & basil showcase their fresh produce and quality cooking. In a candid conversation, Kainaz Contractor (co-conceptualiser along with Rahul Dua) says her favourite dish is the grilled cheese sandwich and it’s something the entire city needs to try. The whole grain mustard adds a sharpness while the arugula lends soft peppery notes in this sandwich made with buttery brioche bread. The brie is sourced from The Spotted Cow Fromagerie from Mumbai and is a local product prepared the French way, while the coffee-pork bacon jam is prepared in-house.
To follow, their newly launched chocolate & raspberry tart is just what you should pair with a cuppa joe. On an off-chance you aren’t in mood for chocolate (does that actually ever happen?), go for salted caramel french toast. Made with brioche and topped with strawberries the french toast has a creamy texture inside, just like we like it. The brioche french toast is also one of Kainaz’s most relished desserts and top recommendations. Talking about the ragi pancakes which are made with Indian grains rather than the normal flour, she says: “We are using local products while maintaining the International food theme, at the same time collaborating with various organic and natural brands we support.”
Kainaz shares how the additions are aimed to take the coffee culture further by stepping out of the usual coffee house menu. “The introductions were made keeping in mind the latest trend of co-working culture and patrons at Blue Tokai looking for more wholesome food, thus the main course items like ravioli. Similar to the coffee scene in Melbourne, the new offerings are eclectic and use sustainable products” says Kainaz.
Since the limited edition peppermint mocha and spiced pourover will soon go out of season, they are also launching siphon coffee. This apparatus can helps achieve a clear cup of black coffee everyday! The laboratory type setup is uber cool and ideal for all coffee lovers. So go ahead and splurge, coffee doesn’t need reasoning.
