Food Trucks are popping up like mushrooms all around the city to feed the raving trend that’s caught on to all of us. While the trend rages all over the country, Delhi and Gurgaon are leading the pack. So, we headed out for a food truck crawl to see how these trucks are keeping up with the flooding demand and pick our favourites!
The Lalit Food Truck Company
When a 5-star hotel decides to venture out with a food truck, you know it’s worth trying. Their food truck displays an array of Mexican delicacies including our beloved tacos, tortillas and churros. If that wasn’t enough, they now also have a special Pizza Truck- all the pizza lovers, this is bespoke for you!
As soon as we saw the bright red truck with sunshine yellow, we knew we were in for a treat. Their chicken tacos loaded with beans and bell peppers showed why this is the city’s most adored truck. We could have easily kept gorging on these tacos for eternity, but the churros were calling us for a bite. So, we skipped to dessert served with a side of chocolate sauce. This piping hot deep fried pastry covered with sugar and cinnamon transported us to Mexico with its crunchy exterior and soft doughy texture inside. While the chocolate was a great accompaniment, the churros themselves were enticing enough for us to order a doggy-pack for later.

Street Foods By Punjab Grill
As the truck got parked and prepped to heat up the grills, there was a flood of cars reeling in and customers rolling down their windows to place orders, even before the coal was hot! While we waited in the car for our food, the crowd grew in proportions and before we knew it, they were churning out food like butter.
We began the meal with beautifully barbecued chicken tikkas roasted on the outside and juicy inside. The quality was in tune with their fine-dine restaurant and we couldn’t be happier with the spices. However, it was their erstwhile Delhii-style butter chicken which took the cake. A slightly sweet, rich tomato gravy heavily suffused with cream. The chicken thigh submerged in gravy had a scintillating smoky flavour from being half-cooked on coal and a slight sweetness infused while cooking in the curry. Paired with ulta tawa parantha, it made our almost-winter night memorable.

Wanchai By Kylin
Kylin joined the on-the-move bandwagon with its sought after food truck Wanchai By Kylin in Saket. Now spread to different neighbourhoods of the city, it’s the most hopped up on for Oriental fare in One Horizon Centre. As the lunch hours hit, the office peeps heads down for their scrumptious meals and piping hot dim-sums. After all, who needs office food or home tiffins when you can have Kylin?
An oriental meal without dim-sums? Blasphemy! So, we began with the classic veg kothe and shanghai chicken dumplings. Right out of the steamer, these endearing little explosions of warmth and flavour, left us with a smile on a chilly afternoon. While the combo meals are a hit, we felt their minced chicken chilli basil bowl really stood out. A generous helping of steamed rice served with chicken infused with chilli and basil, the aroma got to us before the meal (talk about including all senses).

Sushi House Mafia
A sister chain of Eggjactly food truck and a big gun from the Sector 29 food gang, Sushi House Mafia is rolling with their Japanese rolls. While the idea of sushi from the food truck made us reluctant, a look inside their kitchen had our nerves soyed (yep, that humour’s here to stay). Fresh ingredients, exemplary quality and delicious sushi, we were on a wasabi high.
The spicy avocado and teriyaki chicken sushi had us rolling but it was the red thai curry we were loving so matcha! Neatly presented and full of flavour, red thai curry has always been our weakness and we were glad to have them exploit it, for each bite was relished. All we can soy is the meal here made miso happy (Enough word play for now, we promise)!

Frugurpop
We have always had a thing for fruit pops; a burst of freshness, sweetness and the added bonus of being healthy, how can these not be our favourite! Frugurpop stands out not only for its bright pink colour but also for the unique ice-cream and popsicle selections. While the other trucks might be competing amongst each other for savoury meals, this truck is winning everyone with it’s sweet popsicles.
The natural fruits, colour hues and varied flavours were just a few reasons why this was a perfect finish to our food truck crawl. The kiwi strawberry lemonade and fruitilicious sorbet flavours had us in awe but it was the banana nutella waffle, dairy pop that took us to wonderland. The rich luscious flavour of nutella paired with crunchy bits of waffle and just enough banana is another one of their delights which will hit the spot for you!
