Asim Waqif’s latest works explore the boundaries of materiality, structure, and form, transforming architectural concepts into visual poetics. His ‘excavators’—both literal and metaphorical—reimagine the act of cutting, extracting, and seeking meaning, highlighting how tools of construction can also dismantle, displace, and interrogate power. In OverKill, materials are manipulated through bending, tying, drilling, and more, positioning viewers between knowing and erasure, excess and dereliction. Aluminium panels, cyanotype gels, and other unlikely media create human-centred interventions that question how we build, see, and relate to space. Waqif’s works provoke reflection on un-building, entropy, and the delicate interplay of individual and collective experience, capturing fleeting conditions that challenge perception and presence.
