The Jazz trio from Kolkata, Abhind is taking over Delhi this week in celebration of International Jazz Day. Founded earlier this year by composer & bassist Pierre-Antoine Lasnier who creates symphonies to express his life & journey from France to India, Abhind will soon release their first album ‘From Kolkata’. Partnering with Anirudh Saha, who can make any hall reverberate with the boom of his drums and Shonai, the jazz pianist who performs and teaches, Lasnier formed a Jazz trio whose music extends beyond the barriers of shape and form.

One of India’s few genuine latin jazz bands, The Latination is a powerful collaboration of Indian & French specialists celebrating jazz and Latin music. The quartet, having performed across India has received critical acclaim and has a wide ranging repertoire, from salsa and rumba to modern jazz. Celebrating the Afro-latin rhythms with the discreet mellowness of jazz ballads, their performance is equally invigorating for a festive crowd as it is for a jazz enthusiast.

From Delhi to Boston, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya has been honing her musical skills since she was a child and now juggles different genres with performances across the city. Bossa Nova, RnB, Jazz, Hindustani Classical, you name it and she will give you a tune that will make you croon alongside. Lately venturing into Balkan music, Sanjeeta formed Voicestra and despite being the new kid on the block, the quartet has gathered raving reviews. Tuning in to the city’s beloved genre – Jazz, Sanjeeta will be performing with Rhythm Bansal and The Latination this week.

Rie Ona can en-live-n any room with her saxophone, be it a solo performance or with her quartet – Afterglow. Banded together in 2015, Afterglow is a jazz funk quartet with a repertory inspired by elements of nature and affinity for improvisation. Having featured in Rolling Stones, the Jazz week would be incomplete without them taking stage in the capital city. However, we are equally elated about her solo performance at Di Ghent Cafe Take 7. The euphonic tunes of her saxophone are incentive enough for us to battle the Gurgaon U-turns (if you live in Gurgaon, you know what we are talking about)!
The When & Where:
Thursday, 27th April at 7pm: Di Ghent (208, Level 2, Cross Point Mall, DLF Phase 4, Gurgaon).
Saturday, 29th April at 9pm: Afterglow at Cocktails & Dreams, Speakeasy (SCO 23, Sector 15, Part 2 Market, Gurgaon).
The International Jazz Day may be on April 30, but we are gonna be grooving the whole week and with these ace musicians taking stage, we say – see you there?
