Everyone in the city loves the space, the idea, the people, the vibe. What’s not to like about this neighbourhood bar where the artist comes first and where music is the true calling of the evening. Awarded the Power Packers award in 2017, The Piano Man Jazz Club is a melting pot of music and culture. The space is the brainchild of Arjun Sagar Gupta, a Fulbright music scholar, a performing pianist, and a Power Packers 2016 awardee. Piano Man is a hub for discerning music lovers with the mission to build a listening culture and make music accessible to the city by programming Indian and International artists. Plus it doesn’t hurt that their pizzas are ace!
After three successful editions, Giants of Jazz is back with a bigger and better one, taking the festival a notch higher with an interesting line-up. Kicking off in the capital city on Thursday, 29th November and keeping the music going till 8th December 2018, the festival will be welcoming acts from France, Brussels, UK, and India. “We aim introduce the best of Jazz artists to audiences of all ages and proficiencies who can look forward to witnessing exceptional live performances from India and abroad”, says Gupta. An electronics engineer by education, Gupta is credited for pioneering the cause of quality music and building a respectful bridge between the artist and attendee.
Giants of Jazz promises to be ‘a powerful celebration of music that’s democratic, inclusive, emotional and speaks to people across the board’. Celebrating jazz, the festival brings forth, “a hundred years of evolution and interaction that is jazz,” says Arjun who tilts towards straightforward and simple take on jazz standards. He urges not just patrons but also musicians to come and have a listen. Taking forward his artist-first ethic, these 10 days applaud both group and individualistic expressions of jazz.
Supergombo from France will be opening the festival on Thursday, 29th November 2018. The Afro-funk band will bring fresh guitar solos, groovy basslines, and melodic beats to the stage. They will be followed by Klein, who will take you through genres, from jazz to pop, rock to free improvisation. The next to take stage will be MND FLO, followed by a power-packed finale with Max Clouth Clan, thus bringing forth a never-before-seen range of artists to appreciate on just one stage. GoJ 2018 also sees the return of the amazing act The Bluegrass Journeymen – a collective that is guaranteed to bring the house down again! All this and more, only at the city’s very own hub of music, artistry and culture, The Piano Man Jazz Club.
