New Delhi’s relationship with the bean is far from new. The city’s modern roasting roots can be traced back to 1962, with the opening of Devan’s in Lodhi Colony, a pioneer that set the stage for the capital’s caffeine obsession. For decades, these traditional commercial-grade purveyors were the heartbeat of the local scene, but today, Delhi is experiencing a massive, flavour-led evolution.
We are currently witnessing a shift in how coffee is sourced, roasted, and appreciated. The capital’s coffee landscape is in a state of high-energy flux, where quality and transparency are the new benchmarks. At the forefront of this movement are the independent roaster-cafes; spaces that don’t just serve a cup, but advocate for coffee education and the incredible potential of Indian estates.
Here, in no particular order, are the 16 spots in South Delhi that are defining the city’s coffee story today.

Buy a bag of their custom blends to take home, but stay for a simple, perfectly pulled espresso.
Walking into Devan’s is like stepping back in time, and we mean that in the best way possible. Since 1962, they’ve been the OG custodians of Indian coffee. It’s not about the aesthetics here; it’s about that intoxicating aroma of freshly roasted beans that hits you before you even cross the threshold.
