Well, well, well look at what we have here. Hangover after a rocker New Year’s Eve? We said this would happen and gave you tips to avoid it, yet you decided to go drinking without any rethinking. Had you paid heed, you could’ve dodged a dizzy morning and powered through to that New Year diet instead of searching for tips to help a hangover. Worry not, we know you need our skills more than smirks today, and we have just the remedies for you to tackle that headache & say ciao to the brown bottle flu.
Combat Dehydration and Electrolyte Loss
Expect dehydration and loss of electrolytes after a drinking binge. While you were chugging down glasses (bottles, don’t lie) of alcohol, your body was losing some important electrolytes like potassium and the much required H2O. The thought of drinking more liquid now may not be appealing, but we need to rehydrate that body to enter the new year like a boss. Lots of water mixed with ORS will help stabilise your body. Don’t have ORS at home? We thought so. Now, hit the kitchen and find the packs of glucose hoarded, but never used (everyone has them, so no excuses). Fresh coconut water also works wonders for pumping the body with good liquids.
Now that you have water in the body, let’s add some solids with electrolytes so it can settle in. Banana and spinach are rich in potassium and help counteract the diuretic effect. Pretzels are delicious and loaded with salt, pair them with bananas and enjoy the funky taste while salt & potassium do their work.
Sugar Shot
Your body is running low on sugar & carbs with the more chugging less chowing. Eating honey on toast will provide both carbs and fructose, relieving the stress off your liver to increase the blood sugar levels. e know you are already low on tolerance and high on the irritability scale, so let’s not get into the science of it. Just get the toast out, pour some honey on it and trust us when we say it works. We guarantee your dizziness will reduce and make it easier to go ahead and read the rest of the tips through that headache!
BIG Breakfast
If you’re lucid enough now, it’s for the liver damage talk. While you may not favour a big breakfast right away, it can do you some major good.. Eggs and bacon l make for a perfect breakfast after a night of one too many tipples.. Eggs contain taurine which helps reverse the damage you inflicted on your liver and bacon contains proteins, so go ahead and indulge in this comforting breakfast without worry. If you do not have bacon in your refrigerator, try some salmon. Packed with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B3 it will help relieve your headache and uplift your mood. Pair it with ginger tea to soothe nausea.
Stevie’s Tip: While protein is good for you, be careful not to overindulge. Excess fat from bacon can make you feel queasy and we don’t want you going back that road again!
Exercise
Seeing the word may give you the horror, but don’t give up just yet, give us a chance! We aren’t telling you to hit the gym, that’ll only make you more exhausted and dehydrated. However, a light jog, brisk walk or a quick yoga sesh will help get the oxygen flowing and remove toxins at a faster rate. Added advantage, breathing in fresh air; while group failure does make you feel better considering you aren’t the only one who overindulged, the fresh air will uplift the mood and set you a step ahead.
A steam bath or sauna can also do the trick. The increased sweating releases toxins, eliminating the hangover causing elements without you breaking a sweat (pun intended).
